Grand Mosque's Over 120,000 Lighting Units Illuminate Islamic Art and Heritage
The Grand Mosque's lighting system magnificently highlights Islamic art, showcasing beauty and creativity throughout every corner. Inspired by unique Islamic styles, gilded designs seamlessly blend with intricate Islamic inscriptions, creating a historical and authentic ambiance.
Chandeliers, lanterns, and lamps feature decorative motifs drawn from Islamic art, with many adorned with exquisite Quranic verses in artistic calligraphy.
The General Authority for the Care of the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet's Mosque confirmed that the Grand Mosque—its courtyards, roof, minarets, and expansion areas—houses 120,000 lighting units. The Grand Mosque also contains approximately 6,900 large chandeliers and more than 500 chandeliers of various shapes and sizes. This impressive number underscores the immense care and attention the Kingdom's government dedicates to the two holy mosques.
These lighting units are strategically distributed and connected to a dedicated control station, which utilizes the latest global lighting technologies to precisely manage their intensity. Over 1,000 additional lighting units are installed on the surrounding columns and external walls.
The authority consistently performs necessary maintenance, including polishing and ensuring the continuous functionality of all spotlights.
