OIC Emergency Meeting Condemns Israeli Attack on Qatar
The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) held an emergency meeting of its Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission (IPHRC) yesterday in Jeddah to discuss the human rights and humanitarian fallout from the recent Israeli attack on the State of Qatar.
Assistant Secretary-General for Palestine and Al-Quds Affairs Ambassador Samir Diab delivered a statement on behalf of OIC Secretary-General Hissein Taha, stressing that the attack on Qatar—an OIC member state involved in peace efforts—is a blatant violation of international law and the UN Charter and sets a dangerous precedent for international peace and security. He called on the IPHRC to coordinate with global human rights mechanisms to raise awareness about the attack and Israel's broader regional violations.
Separately, the OIC reaffirmed its strong condemnation of Israel's ongoing violations and crimes in the Gaza Strip and occupied Palestinian territories, including collective punishment and forced displacement. The OIC renewed its call for the UN Security Council to enforce an immediate and comprehensive ceasefire, ensure unhindered humanitarian aid access to Gaza, support UNRWA, and hold Israel accountable.
